The "mum" series began with a sculpture of a mummy wrapped figure, with legs securely bound and arms free. This inspired a small number of black and white prints from film.  Then "Mum" inspired a second smaller paper cloth sculpture with her legs unbound. Later both sculptures were used in several paintings.

"Mum" invoked issues of death and life while being bound or constrained. The second smaller paper cloth sculpture embodied freedom through movement in life.
